Look Great in Photos

Almost everyone looks better when they smile. Practice your smile and try to determind whether you look better when smiling with your teeth showing or not. When smiling, place the tip of your tongue behind the top of your front teeth. This helps relax the facial muscles and avoid wrinkling.

Find your best angle. Take pictures of yourself in a variety of poses. Always make sure that the camera is level with your lower neck or upper chest area and angle the camera upwards.

Practice different facial expressions when in front of the mirror -- surprised, angry, etc. Just because you like to fool around with the camera does not mean you have to deal with awkward shots.

Define your eyebrows because undefined eyebrows tend to get lost in brightly lit photos. It's probably best to alaways properly define your eyebrows because you'll never know when a photo opportunity will come up.

Be aware of lighting sources. Natural lighting (i.e. sunlight) is perfect in most cases but for artificial lighting, it's best to keep away from the artificial light source.

Picture-Perfect Pose
  • Straighten your neck, relax your shoulders and push your chin out downwards.
  • Stand straight and suck in your stomach. Good posture makes you look taller.
  • Angle your torso so that you are not facing the camera but keep your shoulders straight for a slimmer silhouette.
  • Keep your arms a bit away and back from the body. When the arms are kept close to the body, the arms will look squashed and will make your torso look bigger.
  • Position one foot in front of the other and turn your feet slightly away from the camera to look slimmer and taller.
