tight fitting top
straight skirt that reaches the ankle, actually a long piece of cloth ten times as long as it is wide with one ornate end called a pallu

- Wear the tight fitting top (specially made for the sari, or a tank top that complements the sari).
- Put on the skirt as a petticoat starting with the less ornate end (opposite the pallu) resting just below the navel.
- Tuck the upper end of the sari firmly into the petticoat all around your waist. Make sure that the lower end of the sari reaches your toes.
- Make six or seven pleats about the width of your palm. Hold the ends between your fingers and tuck them firmly into the petticoat near your navel.
- If so desired, secure the pleats with a safety pin.
- Tuck the remaining sari all around your waist.
- When you reach your right side, bring the pallu diagonally over your left shoulder and let it hang behind.
